Disconnecting the NIC, restarting, then reconnecting the NIC will get the server back online but it's a hassle and not a real solution.

Solution: Stumbled upon this article by Ed Williams. It appears Microsoft has a hotfix for this, but it seemed easier to apply the suggested registry fix. This creates a service dependency on the HTTP service so it waits for the CRYPTOSVC to start. This has resolved all our SharePoint hanging issues.

To work around the issue without installing the hotfix, create a DependOnService registry key to modify the behavior of HTTP.sys. This makes HTTP.sys depend on crytosvc service to be started first. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click StartStart button, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.

2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-string Value.

4. Type DependOnService, and then press ENTER.

5. Right-click DependOnService, and then click Modify.

6. In the Value data box, type CRYPTSVC, and then click OK.

7. Exit Registry Editor.

8. Restart the computer.<div style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.2px; margin-bottom: 10px;">
Solution: After a quick google you might find this page instructing you to run the schedule in the foreground. This is great unless the schedule is full of other nodes and you can't run it any time during the day. Instead, I checked the schedule details on the TSM server console;

q sched domainname schedulename <domain><schedulename>f=d</schedulename></domain>

The schedule was referencing an object on the node to be backed up. When I verified the path and filename discovered a typo.

Using the update schedule command I fixed the path;

update sched domainname schedulename <domainname><schedulename>objects='"c:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\Backup.cmd'"</schedulename></domainname>

Note: In order to get quotes around the path you need to enclose the quotes on the front/end with a single quote. ie. singlequote doublequote string doublequote singlequoteDale Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12725591666896319467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4505375951990403706.post-44650825402569911402016-05-20T10:13:00.001-05:002016-05-20T10:13:21.417-05:00Deploy EPOPS agent to all Windows servers using PSEXECProblem: VMware doesn't really give you an easy way to deploy out it's EPOPS agents. Not for free anyways.

Solution: Here's a method that worked really well for me. Grab pstools and extract to a folder, c:\temp sounds good. Right-click your CMD prompt and Run As, choose an account that has access to remotely connect to your servers.

Command:
psexec @serverlist.txt -c vRealize-Endpoint-Operations-Management-Agent-x86-64-win-6.2.1-3720494.exe -serverAddress vrops.domain.local -securePort 443 -username admin -password yourpass -serverCertificateThumbprint 03:51:F2:... /verysilent /dir="c:\ep-agent"

The serverlist.txt is a list of your servers you want to deploy to.

Modify this with your environment info. The Cert Thumbprint is copied from the admin web gui. It's pretty long so make sure copy the entire Thumbprint and include it in the command.

Psexec will copy the exe to the c:\windows\system folder on the remote system, execute the command then remove the exe file when it's done. Slick!
As an example, use the ClusterName-CAU (ie. Cluster01-CAU). If you don’t do this the CAU wizard will create a randomly named object.

2. Add this new CAU object to the local admins group on all related cluster nodes.

3. Grant cluster object (ie. Cluster01) "full access" to the new CAU object in AD. Open the CAU object, security, add cluster object and check Full Access. Without this access the CAU wizard will fail to complete.

4. Modify the cluster group policy object or local policy on your nodes to grant the cluster object “Force shutdown from a remote system” rights on both nodes. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Force shutdown from a remote system. Without this option the cluster will update the node but can’t force a restart therefore cluster updating will fail.

Note:
If configuration of the CAU failed… You may see Kerberos errors in the Server Manager console on either node or “failed” objects in the cluster resources list. Check the cluster resources using powershell to verify the prestaged cluster object is properly listed. “get-clusterresource” will list all the cluster resources and states.

If CAU object is listed in a failed state or the incorrect object is listed (perhaps you didn’t properly enter a prestaged computer account) rerun the CAU wizard and remove the role. Re-run the powershell command to verify the objects were properly removed by the wizard. If they weren't removed you can remove them manually with the “remove-clusterresource resourcename” command. If the cluster is in a good state, re-run the wizard and configure it again.

I noticed what might be a glitch in the way the wizard creates the resources. The first time you run the wizard you'll notice one of the resources has a somewhat randomized name slightly resembling the prestaged computer account you created. If you run the wizard, remove the settings, then re-run the wizard to add the settings back a second time they'll be named more closely to your prestaged computer account. Bizarre!Dale Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12725591666896319467noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4505375951990403706.post-88852619097275812012016-05-09T16:47:00.000-05:002016-05-11T16:15:26.597-05:00VROPS EP OPS Agent not communicating with server after agent upgradeProblem: VROPS EP OPS Agent not communicating with server after agent upgrade. No amount of uninstalling/installing seems to fix this. I also cleared the agent data directory and restarted the service with no success. In the agent log you'll see errors "Unable to send autoinventory platform data to server, waiting..."

Solution: I'm making an assumption that your agent config file is accurate and you're not having underlying network issues that would otherwise prevent the agent from communicating to the VROPS node.

On the affected windows guest, open a command prompt (always right click and Run as Administrator!). Change to the ep-agent directory, example c:\ep-agent\bin and type the command "ep-agent setup". This will force the setup to run through your configuration file and reconnect to the server.Dale Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12725591666896319467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4505375951990403706.post-39785562551668318522016-04-15T11:29:00.001-05:002016-05-11T16:15:26.571-05:00TSM Backup Error: An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machineProblem: TSM backup error; An

Examining the dsmerror. log you find this error; ANS1715E A filespace already exists for virtual machine

Solution: Modify the UUID of the virtual server to match the previous UUID, thus reconnecting the new VM to the TSM Filenode that already exists.

Specifying a UUID for a Virtual Machine
Note: VMware Tools may need to be removed from the virtual machine prior changing the UUID to prevent the UUID from reverting.
In some circumstances you may want to assign a specific UUID to the virtual machine. To do this, you need to override the automatically generated UUID value. Power off the virtual machine and edit its configuration (.vmx) file to set the value of the UUID parameter. Use a text editor to edit the configuration file. The format for the line is:
uuid.bios = ""

The UUID value must be surrounded by quotation marks. A sample configuration line looks like:

uuid.bios = "00 11 22 33 44 55 66 77-88 99 aa bb cc dd ee ff"

After you add this line to the configuration file, power on the virtual machine. The new UUID is used when the virtual machine boots.

After more investigation it appears in IIS the Application Pool "WsusPool" would enter a stopped state and WSUS would fail synchronization.

Solution: After some reading it seems this is memory related. Increasing the memory allocation in the Application Pool/Advanced Settings didn't seem to resolve the issue.

Instead I disabled the memory limitation altogether in the IIS recycling settings for the WsusPool Application Pool. I'm also using Hyper-V and the Dynamic Memory feature. I boosted the minimum ram for the SCCM virtual machine to 4GB which should be enough. I believe Hyper-V was starving the virtual machine for ram and thus causing the WsusPool to stop.Dale Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12725591666896319467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4505375951990403706.post-3888962884667307022015-01-13T09:59:00.001-06:002016-05-11T16:15:26.567-05:00Windows Server 2012 Slow to Download Updates?Try this trick;
Although SNMP works fine, you'll be missing alerts that your switches are generating. You'll see them in the switches logs and webgui, but these messages should really show up in iMC, such as CRC or Alignment Errors.
The logging command will allow you to set a remote syslog destination.
For Procurve 2524, 4108gl, 5308xl, 5412zl:
HP Intelligent Management for some reason won't remove them in the GUI, so I had to do it via command line. Here's how to do it;

Solution:

Telnet to the switch, login as a switch Admin and enter config mode (by typing "config" at the prompt).

"show snmp-server" will list your servers. Take note of the IP address and community listed by each.

For 5308xl and 5412zl switches:

"no snmp-server host 123.456.123.23 community public" will remove the server.

"snmp-server host 123.456.123.23 community public" will add the new server.

For 4108GL and 2524 switches:
"no snmp-server host 123.456.123.23 public" will remove the server.
"snmp-server host 123.456.123.23 public" will add the new server.

It turns out even though the computer detects as x64 architecture, it's actually using the x86 boot image in SCCM.

We were missing the NIC driver for that model in that boot image. Apparently Dell dropped it from it's WinPE cabs at some point and we didn't notice it until we cleared the drivers from our boot images and reloaded them (thus losing the original driver support in the boot image).

After checking the motherboard I noticed the chipset was BCM5751. The correct driver on the Broadcom website is the NetXtreme Desktop/Mobile and the Windows 7 driver worked just fine. The drivers that Dell had listed for this model didn't work! After adding the drivers, verify that the boot image has the driver listed by going into Properties and checking the driver tab. Then verify that your DP updated by checking the last update date/time. If not, update it manually and verify. Once that's done you shouldn't have any issues PXE booting your Optiplex GX620's and WinPE should connect to the server just fine.Dale Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12725591666896319467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4505375951990403706.post-30879948898208218092013-05-29T14:09:00.001-05:002016-05-11T16:15:26.559-05:00Silently install Firefox 21 and preconfigure it for deployment with SCCMSilently install Firefox 21 and preconfigure it for deployment with SCCM

This was a pain to figure out. Most of it was done here, thanks Adrian Gordon.

I've added two modifications.

1. The method he uses to disable the bookmark importer doesn't work as the override.ini file has moved. I've modified the install script to reflect this.
2. I want the internal pdf viewer disabled as we prefer to use acrobat reader or pro. This required a modification to the mozilla.cfg file in our package.

Here's the final results.

Create a folder to contain all your files.
I received errors about not being able to connect, etc. It turns out the windows firewall was blocking the installation. Simple enough, you can disable the firewall and try again, or you can use the below manual method of installation, thus keeping your firewall enabled.

Find the agent installation files on your source 2012 DPM server. I found them here;
c:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\agents\RA\4.1.3408.0\amd64\1033

Copy the files to your target server. I chose to create a new folder, c:\temp

Connect remotely to the target server, open the cmd prompt and cd into the folder with your copied files.

run the DPMAgentInstaller_KB2822782_AMD64.exe or whatever your particular .exe is named.

This will install the agent, however it'll still be disconnected from the DPM server and the firewall isn't configured yet to allow communication between the two.

On the target server, cd to the following directory;
c:\Program Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\bin

run the following command;

SetDpmServer.exe -dpmservername YourDPMservername and press enter

If you typed the correct server name and the target server can access the DPM server on your network, it will succeed and will also configure your firewall to allow communications between the DPM server and target server.

Once that's done, go back to your DPM server, and click "Install", instead of installing an agent, choose, "Attach agents" and specify the target server. It should succeed in attaching the target server and you should be good to go.

Enjoy!
<![endif]-->The ccmeval.exe is run from a
scheduled task that is created upon installation of the agent. This task is run
daily to allow the computer to check-in with the sccm server. More than likely
this error condition occurs when a client agent was upgraded, but for some
reason the scheduled task wasn’t recreated. On the problem computer you'll see listed under the task results "not registered" or other failure codes.

Solution: On the problem client go to Start / Run and type "control schedtasks" to open the scheduled tasks control panel. Open Microsoft, then Configuration Manager and delete all listed entries. Initiate the “install
client” with the “always install” option checked in the sccm 2012 console. The scheduled
tasks should be recreated when the agent installs and the computer will start checking in appropriately
to the sccm server.Check the local computers ccmeval.log file for more details.Dale Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12725591666896319467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4505375951990403706.post-2396877896116563552013-03-26T14:20:00.004-05:002016-05-11T16:15:26.555-05:00Failed updating definitions for Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint ProtectionI had this issue on my local computer, after System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection was installed. It appeared to be updating properly, but when manually pressing the update button, it would error out!

The solution:

Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then right-click Command Prompt, and then select Run as administrator.

In the Command Prompt window, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
Cd\
Cd program files\microsoft security client
Mpcmdrun –removedefinitions –all
Exit

Open Endpoint Protection, click the Update tab, and then click Update.

Here's how to do it;

Open Powershell as an Administrator.
Type Get-DedupVolume (to view your dedupe volumes)
Type Start-DedupJob –Full –Path D: -Type Optimization (where D: is your dedupe drive)
Type Get-DedupStatus –Path D: (to view the status)

Sweet!
I tried to install the agent manually but received a different error, “Data Protection Manager Setup. Could not load the setup launch screen. Please contact Microsoft product support”.

Solution: It turns out that server 2008 R2 hosts need to have vcredist_x64 installed first.

If you used the default installation path on the DPM host, you can find the vcredist_x64.exe at this location: “C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\ProtectionAgents\AC\4.1.3313.0\amd64\vcredist_x64.exe"

After installing this and ensuring the host firewall was disabled the remote agent installed perfectly.Dale Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12725591666896319467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4505375951990403706.post-65965153753031337522013-02-01T09:22:00.001-06:002013-05-30T10:31:31.125-05:00Setup has detected that the installation of Reporting Services is not correctly configured or no instance of Reporting Services is linked to MSSQLSERVER, installing Microsoft DPM

Problem:

Error: Setup has detected that the installation of

I was trying to install Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 SP1 and connect it to a newly setup remote SQL 2012 server and received an error about the Reporting Services not being properly linked to the SQL 2012 server.

Solution: I wasted a good few hours on this, trying to reconfigure reporting servers with no progress. I finally stumbled upon this post of the exact same error. Thanks to user RH_Av for his helpful post.

My error was assuming that the DPM install would be smart enough to know that the default instance should be used, and that it has reporting services installed and configured.

The solution was to enter the SERVERNAME/INSTANCE, not just the SERVERNAME. I despise stupid things, and this was something Microsoft should fix. It should always check the default SQL instance. duh. Anyways, problem solved!

Problem: I recently was preparing my Dell Poweredge R715 servers for Windows Server 2012 and figured I should grab the Dell Server Update utility and perform all necessary firmware updates.

The update succeeded for most items, but failed on the hard drives. Actually one of the three internal drives succeeded (AS08) but the other two were left at the old revision (AS02). What I didn't realize immediately (because the updates were performed remotely) was that this caused the RAID container to enter a degraded state. Unfortunately the upgraded drive wouldn't firmware update using either the Dell utility (due to the degraded state of the container), nor could I rebuild the drive using Dell's server manager, as the option just didn't exist (due to the differing revisions perhaps?).

Solution: With some googling I found this posting. Thanks to user AGAG70 for the tip to use the free MegaRAID Storage Manager utility from LSI here. I downloaded the .zip file. Extracted it on the host server, performed a custom install and chose the "install components to manage this local server" (or something to that extent). Once installed I ran the software, selected the Physical tab and could see the drive that was degraded. I right clicked it and told it to rebuild. It looks like this utility can do firmware updates as well, but I think I'll try the Dell server utility again once the container is fully functional.
